Terms & conditions

The plain-English rules for using this website, staying with us, hiring the space and buying a gift voucher.

Last updated: 24 July 2026

1. Who we are

This website is run by Swan Out Ltd, trading as The Crooked Swan, of The Crooked Swan, 4 Church Street, Crewkerne, Somerset, TA18 7HR. You can reach us on 01460 208414 or at info@crookedswan.com.

Company registration number: [TO CONFIRM: company registration number].
VAT registration number: [TO CONFIRM: VAT registration number].

By using this website, or by booking with us, you accept these terms. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

2. Using this website

We try hard to keep everything here accurate and current, but menus, prices, opening hours and what is on change — sometimes at short notice, which is the nature of a working pub. Photographs are illustrative; rooms are individually styled, so yours may differ in detail from the pictures. Nothing on this site is an offer capable of acceptance until we confirm your booking.

The text, photographs, logo and design belong to us or our suppliers. You are welcome to link to us and to share our pages; please do not copy the site wholesale or use our logo as if it were yours.

3. Room bookings

Room bookings are taken through a third-party booking system hosted at direct-book.com. When you check availability you leave this website; that provider handles the reservation and the payment. Your contract for the stay itself is with Swan Out Ltd.

  • Confirmation. A booking is confirmed when you receive a written confirmation from the booking system or from us. Until then, nothing is held.
  • Rates. Room rates are per room, per night, and include VAT. [TO CONFIRM: whether displayed rates include breakfast.]
  • Deposit and payment. [TO CONFIRM: deposit taken at booking, and when the balance is due.]
  • Arrival and departure. [TO CONFIRM: check-in time.] [TO CONFIRM: check-out time.] If you are going to arrive late, ring us and we will sort it out.
  • Changing or cancelling. [TO CONFIRM: cancellation window and any charge that applies inside it.] [TO CONFIRM: whether non-refundable advance rates are offered, and their terms.] [TO CONFIRM: no-show policy.]
  • Groups and multiple rooms. [TO CONFIRM: whether different deposit and cancellation terms apply to bookings of several rooms.]
  • Dogs. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the bar and courtyard. [TO CONFIRM: whether dogs are allowed in the bedrooms, any charge, and any conditions.]
  • Smoking and vaping. Not permitted anywhere indoors, as required by law. If a room has to be deep-cleaned because it has been smoked in, we will charge for that cleaning.
  • Damage. You are responsible for damage or loss you or your party cause beyond normal wear and tear, and we may charge the reasonable cost of putting it right.

Very occasionally we may have to move you to another room, or in the worst case cancel a booking — a burst pipe, a power cut, something genuinely outside our control. If that happens we will tell you as soon as we can, offer an alternative where we have one, and refund what you have paid if we cannot.

4. Tables, functions and enquiries

Table reservations, private hire, packages and party enquiries come to us directly. An enquiry is not a booking: it is confirmed only when we reply and confirm it.

  • Large parties. [TO CONFIRM: minimum numbers, deposit and pre-order requirements for large tables and set menus.]
  • Private hire. Hire of the function room or courtyard is confirmed on written confirmation from us. [TO CONFIRM: hire fee or minimum spend, deposit, payment schedule and cancellation terms.] [TO CONFIRM: parking arrangements for evening and large events.]
  • Allergies and dietary needs. Tell us when you book and again when you arrive, and we will do everything we sensibly can. Our kitchen is small and busy and handles the major allergens, so we cannot guarantee a dish is entirely free of traces.
  • Tables we are holding. If you are running late, please ring. We will hold a table as long as we can, but after a reasonable wait we may have to release it.

5. Gift vouchers

  • Vouchers are issued by Swan Out Ltd and can be redeemed at The Crooked Swan only.
  • They are not exchangeable for cash, and we cannot give change on a voucher.
  • Redemption is subject to availability — a voucher does not itself reserve a room or a table, so book in the usual way and mention the voucher when you do.
  • Validity. [TO CONFIRM: voucher validity period from date of purchase.]
  • Transfer. [TO CONFIRM: whether a voucher may be transferred to someone else.]
  • Part-use. [TO CONFIRM: what happens to an unspent balance where the voucher is worth more than the bill.]
  • Lost vouchers. [TO CONFIRM: whether a lost or stolen voucher can be replaced.]
  • Refunds. [TO CONFIRM: refund and cancellation position on vouchers bought online, including the 14-day cancellation right for distance sales.]

6. Behaviour

We are a village pub and we want it to stay a nice place to be. We may refuse service, or ask someone to leave, if their behaviour is abusive, unsafe or spoils it for other guests and our team, or where we are required by licensing law to refuse. We do not refund in that situation.

7. Your things

Please look after your belongings. Except where the law makes us responsible — including our responsibilities as an inn — we are not liable for loss or damage to possessions brought onto the premises. Anything left behind is kept for a reasonable period; ring us and we will look.

8. Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Otherwise we are not liable for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the booking was made. Your legal rights as a consumer are unaffected.

9. If something goes wrong

Tell us while you are here if you possibly can — almost anything can be fixed on the spot. If it cannot, email info@crookedswan.com or ring 01460 208414 and we will look into it properly.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your booking is the one published when you booked, and the date at the top of this page tells you when it last changed.

11. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
