Work with us

Come and work at the Swan

We are a proper Somerset pub with a busy kitchen, eight bedrooms and a courtyard that fills up the moment the sun comes out. Good people are the whole business, so we always like to hear from them — advertised job or not.

What it is like here

The Swan is in the middle of Crewkerne, on Church Street, and it is open every day. It is a village local, a restaurant, a small hotel and a function room, all in the same old building — which means no two shifts are quite the same and nobody is stuck doing one thing forever.

It is run by people who are here, behind the bar and in the kitchen, not by a head office three counties away. If you have a better idea about how something should be done, you can say so to the person who can change it.

We are a short walk from Crewkerne station on the London–Exeter line, which makes getting here without a car genuinely possible.

The sort of people we get on with

Turn up when you said you would. Be kind to the person next to you on a bad night. Care whether the food goes out right and the room looks lovely. Everything else — the till, the coffee machine, the wine list — we can teach.

Experience is welcome and not essential. Some of the best people we have had started with none.

Where you might fit

The work there is

In the kitchen

Chefs at every level, and kitchen porters. A busy, proper kitchen doing breakfast, lunch, Sunday roasts and dinner — real cooking, not a reheat job.

Front of house

Bar and waiting staff. Locals in for a pint, families in for a roast, guests down for breakfast. If you like people, this is the good bit.

Housekeeping

Eight bedrooms that guests remember for the right reasons. Mornings, careful work, and a real difference to how the place feels.

Functions & events

Weddings, parties, wakes and cinema nights in the function room and courtyard. Setting up, running the night, putting it all back.

[TO CONFIRM: current vacancies. This page deliberately advertises none, and says nothing about pay, hours, tips or live-in accommodation, until those are confirmed. Send the real roles over and they can be listed here properly.]

How to get in touch

There is no form and no application portal. Email info@crookedswan.com with a few lines about yourself — what you have done, what you are after, and when you can work. A CV is useful if you have one to hand, and no obstacle if you have not.

Or ring us on 01460 208414. Best to catch us between lunch and dinner service, when it is quieter.

You are also very welcome to walk in and ask — we are open 8am–11pm, every day. Ask for whoever is running the shift.
